Advanced On-Page Search Engine Optimization Techniques

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

An experienced webmaster knows how to use title and meta tags appropriately, and even may know enough about search engines to know he needs to include keywords in those tags. Once that is accomplished, however, what else can be done to the page to optimize for select keywords?

The header tags are considered some of the most important tags on the page, so be sure to use them. Instead of using a font code to boost the size of text on a line, use the H1, H2, and H3 tags where you can. Including your keywords in the header tags makes your site match as more relevant in the search engines. There are header tags all the way down to H6, but rarely are they used. The most common are the H1, H2, and H3 tags and those will really be enough.

Where you place your text can make a big difference. If you format your page using tables and you keep your text to the left, the keywords in that text appear lower down on the page and therefore not as relevant. By formatting your text to be on the left side, your keywords appear closer to the top of the HTML document and therefore more relevant. This difference is subtle, but may be just the edge you need to outrank your competition.

It’s important to spread the keywords throughout the entire page. They should appear at the beginning of the page, the middle, and the bottom. That means don’t put all your eggs in one basket, or only include the keywords at the beginning of your article. This is easy to do when you have lots of content to work with, but a bit more challenging when you have little text because you want the text to be well written stuff for humans to read. Find a balance with including the keyword often to attract the attention of the search engine spiders without attracting too much attention from humans.

The navigation through the pages on your site is also extremely important. Perhaps you thought that including a list of link to all the pages of the site was for your convenience? It’s for that too, but it’s also so that the search engine spiders find all the other pages of the site. The text that appears in these links should be the keywords you want that page to rank for because that’s the best way to help a page rank well.

A little known trick you can use to throw in some more keywords without humans seeing anything is the title tags of links. This is simply accomplished by inserting the word “title=”, followed by your keywords and enclosed with quotation marks, inside the “A” tag. Your visitors won’t see those keywords but the search engine spiders will.

The whole purpose of working on your pages should be to make your content relevant to what people are looking for and ensuring that the search engines know it too. By understanding a little bit of how the language and code works, you’ll be able to accomplish that much more easily than if you tried loading your meta tags with keywords. Make your sites friendly to search engines and human visitors and you will see incredible returns on your efforts.

Will Google AdSense Give Me An Online Income?

Friday, May 30th, 2008

An online income is possible for everyone displaying Adsense ads, but although many webmasters are making a nice income with these ads, many aren’t.

A lot of people say that all you have to do is put up a website and you’ll be making over $50 a day with Adsense. It does sound simple and it is, but you will need to optimize your site so that you do generate more and more clicks on the ads that are sitting on your site.

The first thing that you need to do is to place the Google ads in the right spot of the page. This will determine how much money you will make each day. It is very important that you place the ad at the top of the page (above the fold) on your website in order to get the most clicks. What this really means is that you will want to place the Adsense code that Google gives you high enough on the page so that your visitors do not have to scroll down to see the Google ads. If you choose to have the ads right at the top above everything else then do that.

Placing the Google Adsense ads at the top of your website above the fold, gives you a greater chance that people will click on the ad, which will help your site generate a higher click through rate also known as CTR. The reason for this is because the majority of your visitors will not scroll down the page and look at it. Most of the time, people look over the top part of the page without thinking about scrolling down.

The way you blend the ads with the rest of your page can determine if the ad is visually appealing or not. It is very crucial to make the Google Adsense ads look like your site and not another ad. You can do this by making the font and colour of the ad’s text similar to the rest of the page. I also recommend that you blend the background of the ad with the background of your page. It should basically have the same colour.

Google gives you the option to go into your account and customize your ads in different fonts and colors. This will help you blend the ads to your site. Make sure that you don’t use the banner ads on your site because this will decrease your click through rate.

People who visit your website usually try to avoid any banner and picture ads that they see. If you want to increase your click through rate, you will want to add text ads. This is an option you should use. To enable the text ad to stand out and look clickable, use a blue underline.

Google has also confirmed that using the 336×280 rectangle ad block size does have the highest click through rate. Using this ad size will increase your click through rate and the income that you generate.

If you follow the advice given above, you can improve your CTR and make a good online income with Adsense.

SEO - Web Page Optimization And Home Page Optimization

Friday, May 30th, 2008

In this post, I will explain you how to optimize a webpage by defining page optimization and then I will also explain how to optimize your homepage to maximize the search engine rank. Please keep in mind that all search engines don’t index pages in a same manner. Therefore SEO techniques won’t promise you maximum output in all search engines.

We do page optimization to make our web page friendlier to search engines. Page optimization guarantees that your web page is functioning in a very easy way that the search engines can understand. I want to reiterate on a fact that I mentioned you in an earlier post. Never try to make your website more search engine friendly which is not much friendly to the visitors. Then your website will look uncomfortable to read and it won’t attract visitors. Followings are the main procedures that you must follow to optimize you webpage and home page.

I assume that you have gained knowledge in keyword search from my earlier post here. There I mentioned that, you must find the most suitable key word phrase for each web page. Put the primary keyword in the title of the web page. It means that you have to put the primary keyword in between the tags of the HTML code. The best practice is adding in the first position of the title or closer to the beginning of the title. Unless there is a special need to put your website title in each and every web page title, don’t put it. If you really want to add your website title and want to promote it as a brand, put it at the end of the page title, after the primary keyword. Always make sure that your page title is shorter.

Some people think that META tags are important in SEO. But actually you don’t have to worry about them much as it doesn’t affect your ranking very much. But it is a good practice to add some description about your web page in the META tags. This description will be displayed in the search description of your web page in search engines. I have to mention the same thing regarding the META KEYWORD tag. But you can add Meta keyword tags with your primary keyword phrase, its synonyms and if possible some misspelled phrases of your primary keyword phrase. If you put multiple Meta keyword tags you must separate them with commas.

Keep in mind to add the header as same as your page title key word phrase in

<br /> <h1> format. This will give more support to emphasis your page title and keyword phrase to the search engine. It is a good practice to use sub headers (in <br /> <h2> or <br /> <h3> format) with some description in every paragraph start. Try to do this at least in before few paragraphs’ starting. If you can break your content to make sure that they are easy to read (by numbering or using bulleted list), it will look better.

Next is your home page. You must pay a good attention to your home page optimization as it is the first page that visitors will see often. You must put all the WORKING links of other main web pages in your home page. And make sure that it is possible to reach every page through your home page. I don’t mean that all the links to the other pages must be put in the home page. Your home page must provide access to all the pages with the help of the intermediate main pages. But you must link all the major category pages to your home page. As I mentioned in the key word search post, you must put the best keyword for your business niche in the home page title. Use META tags and META KEYWORD tags in the home page also. But it is not a necessary thing. This will improve the readability of your website.

These are the most important things that you must consider to optimize your web pages and home page. I hope that you gained a good knowledge on this part. If you need to clarify anything related to this, you can always contact me through admin@best-internet-guide.com. I will make sure that all of your questions are answered. I will explain you how to optimize your whole website and register in web directories to build traffic, in the next post.

SEO Tools Are Real Time Savers

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Search engine optimization requires many hours of research before the process actually begins. SEO tools are a great time saver, often offering information and data in seconds as opposed to hours of manually checking for specific SEO related information.

Though an SEO tool offers an opportunity to save time in gaining needed data quickly, tools do not replace the need to become familiar and experienced with SEO guidelines. Before an SEO tool can prove to be useful, one must first become accustomed to each of the major search engines and their algorithms to best understand and implement the data that you are researching into your own SEO project.

Example tools that help a webmaster safe time are the sandbox detection tool, ranking tool, back link tool, keyword popularity tool. Search engine seo tools are tools that can make a web master successful in achieving information in a short period of time.

There are many seo tools that can be found on the internet. I would suggest that you research each tool web site and make sure that there are no restrictions to that particular tool. Check for any copy rights before downloading a tool.

More SEO tools can be found by search on Google for SEO Tools.

Green Marketing - They Will Eat Your Lunch

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

People are increasing willing to pay more for what is perceived as a better product.

Larger numbers of people are coming up against the growing mountain of evidence of global warming and the global impact a consumer lifestyle can have on the planet.

We look around and see countries like India and China simply exploding and coming onto the consumer scene. If the United States consumerism had such a damaging influence on the environment, then what happens when you add in a few more dozen U.S. style economies into the global mix?

People want socially responsible consumer goods. They want to know that the extra money they pay for a product will help reduce the problem in some fashion. And they will pay premium prices for green products.

Green marketing is not only here to stay, it has entered the mainstream of advertising and if your company is not taking advantage of the green consumer then your company is falling behind and becoming old fashioned.

Nobody wants to buy your old out-dated products that do not help the environment. They will turn against you and buy somewhere else because of the damage your production methods cause.

All because you did not investigate for a better way to make you product. Larger companies now realize that to capture a new market segment today and tomorrow, they need to deliver a product that is superior in some way to its conventional counterpart instead of relying on the good intentions of others.

Suppliers realize they need to make it an easy choice for consumers. They are paying attention to movements in other countries (and not just the European Union) to boycott companies with unfair or unsafe business practices.

A sizable portion of the buying population will go out of their way to avoid supporting companies that pollute their home countries, no matter where they are.

At least in the most developed world, what people crave is something real and authentic. Why select a milk chocolate bar from a hundred foil-wrapped Cadbury’s offerings when you can get a locally made 80% cocoa bar, wrapped in recycled wax paper and made with exotic distillate water flavorings and fair trade cocoa?

If you are not seriously considering a green marketing concept, then your competition is going to eat your share of the green lunch.

Green Marketing is exploding and you are being left behind, unless you act right now. Check out Green Marketing Concepts

A Practical Guide To Choose A Reliable Website Hosting Company

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

As many of you know, my company sells e-business applications all over the world. Many times we found customers that, in addition to an e-business application, they need a hosting service. In order to give an end to end service, we offer our customers a hosting service based on resellers plans that we frequently purchase online. Other customers what to purchase their hosting plans themselves separately from our services, and so they asked us how to choose between the different available hosting companies.

Here is my practical guide to choose a reliable hosting company. Iâ??ve to admit that, since using these techniques, we never have a problem with any of the hosting companies that we resell.

1. Select the server operative system you need.
Before you start choosing the best hosting company, you should know if you need a Windows hosting or a Linux one. This depends on the application that youâ??ll host there. Ask your programmers and designers which server type you need; theyâ??ll probably help you with this subject. Even some Windows servers also support PHP and MySQL, if you really need a Linux plan, itâ??s better to get a Linux plan and not a Windows one that supports Linux extensions.

2. Determine the amount of space you need.
Nowadays, almost all hosting plan has a huge amount of disk space and data transfer. But still exists some MINI plans that both features are not too high. Perhaps you are planning to host a small application and you only need a great amount of data transfer; maybe you are planning to host lot of media (images, videos, etc) and you require extra space. Before start looking for a hosting company, you should estimate the amount of disk space and data transfer that you business will need, at least, for the next year. You can also get help for your programmers and designers.

3. Search for well known hosting companies.
Once you know the server system you need (Windows, Linux, etc), and the disk pace / data transfer require for your business, you can start searching the web for companies that provides the hosting services. Donâ??t get into panic. Youâ??ll find thousand companies that can be your potential hosting providers, but be sure that only a few deserve that responsibility. The best way for searching companies, is by recommendation. Ask your colleagues, talk with other companies and let them tell you their experience with their hosting providers. At this point, I recommend you to open a spreadsheet and gather all the information you find for each company in order to help you taking the final decision. Itâ??s very important to pay attention and see if the company offers a plan that fits your need.

4. Find hosting reviews.
Once you get a list of potential hosting providers, you can star looking how other people rated that hosting companies. There are many hosting reviews sites: FindmyHost.com, TopHosts.com, WebHostMagazine.com, RateMyHost.com, WHReviews.com, etc. You can find many good and bad comments over there. Some of them could be totally invented in order to position a company on the top; some of them are real costumersâ?? comments. Just check that reviews and see if how many good/bad comments that those companies have and make your appreciation.

5. Test their service.
Finally, hereâ??s the most important task in the process of choosing a reliable hosting company. As you could see, all hosting companies say that they have a 24×7 support. But.., is that really true? Hereâ??s what I used to do:

I tried to contact those companies in some special holidays, for instance, on December the 24th, near midnight, or the day after. I also contact them on December the 31st near midnight, or the day after. I also check where in the world the hosting datacenter is located and figure which holidays that country have. For instance, if the company is located in the US, I contact them on July the 4th. I used to talk to a representative, via chat, or phone and ask them some commercial doubts.

Just figure this: If a hosting company has a commercial people waiting for your call or chat during that special days (and pays for that, of course), probably they also have a support team in the same moment in order to attend any customer call or requirements. So, they seem to be really prepared for any inconvenience, anytime, 24×7. In the other hand, If a company does not pay a commercial representative to be online and ready for your call or chat during that special moments, we can not infer too much about their support area, but clearly they do not have all their critical (sales and support) staff 24×7.

This is the most important part of any decision process for a hosting company. Test their service, especially their commercial one, during those hours and days that you know that almost everyone are celebrating, or sleeping. If they can attend you itâ??s because thereâ??s somebody that will listen to you anytime. I did a matrix decision with many hosting companies and I frequently updated it with this information. Many of them fail on the fifth evaluation point. In order to end this article, if you need my personal recommendation, maybe there are many other really good hosting companies, some of them cheaper, but, up today, we trusted our hosting in the following companies that have really good qualifications: WebHostingbuz.com, HostGator.com and Rexoy.net. If you are looking for a reliable hosting company, just follow this practical guide and do not base your decision only in the hosting price.

Search Engine SEO Secrets

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Often people think it is way too complex to optimize your web site for search engines. Now this is actually much simpler than what you think. Using seo is really easy when you follow a few basic principles. People really make it far more complicated than what it actually is. Now this is based on my own experience from what has worked for me. I used to subscribe to search engine optimization services to get insider information as to how the search engines were ranking web sites. However with change in algorithms on a frequent basis it becomes nearly impossible to implement these strategies as most of the time you end up wasting a lot of time. By following the basic principles that I recommend I was able to optimize a large web site and average twenty seven thousand visitors a month from free search engine traffic.

The most important factor in creating good search engine rankings is creating good quality inbound links. This accounts for almost ninety percent of your search engine rankings. You need to generate inbound links with the anchor text of the keywords that you are targeting in them. To generate good inbound links you need to build a web site with high quality content so that people will automatically link to it. You need to list your web site in all the major directories which target your niche. You also need to swap links with web sites related to the same niche as what you are in. Web 2 can also be used to generate links by listing your web site on popular social bookmarking and story web sites.

Off page factors are really quite simple. In a nutshell you need to have the keywords that you are targeting in the title. You also need to include it in the header tags and two to five percent density in the body. Additional things which you can do that have a lesser impact is to include the keywords in meta tags, image tags, comment tags and in bold tags.

Once you follow these basic search engine seo strategies you can drive thousands of visitors to your web site a month without paying a dime for advertising. Also these leads will be highly targeted as they are searching for information concerning your specific topic and likely to convert into paying customers.

Would you like to know more about the magical marketing techniques that have helped me to quit my day job? I have just completed my new guide.

Understanding Google AdWords

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Google AdWords
Unlike many search engines Google, to its credit, clearly denotes search listings that are paid placement. In fact, Google AdWords appear in a separate section down the left side of the screen.

Google AdWords provide an inexpensive advertising venue for businesses to advertise products or services to a targeted audience. Advertisers have the ability to control their budget, target their advertising based on keywords. Advertisers are also free to determine the ad contents.

Google AdWords allow for nearly instant traffic, which can be turned on and off. Traffic results can be measured, providing information on what is successful, what isn’t and what needs to be changed. AdWords can be found that work by running a test campaign.

Benefits to AdWords
Advertisers bid on keywords, the more an advertiser is willing to pay the higher the likelihood the ad will appear higher in position in the list of ads served. Google, invariably wanting to make the most from advertisers, determines placement based on a combination of click through rate, bid amount and budget. Of course, in order to maximize revenue and please searchers Google does have guidelines for ads served and all ads must receive a minimum percentage click through or they are removed.

AdWord Guidelines
Clearly and accurately describe the website, this is to the advertiser and searchers benefit. Ultimately, the more qualified the visitor who clicks the ad, the higher the likelihood the clicker will convert into a sale. By providing clear and accurate information, searchers who click the ad are qualified leads, which tend to convert more consistently than unqualified leads. The most effective advertising communicates a clear message to a targeted audience.

Avoid excessive capitalization, superlatives and lavish exclamation marks in the ad. By doing this you are not only serving the visitor you are filtering unwanted clicks from non-buyers. Due to space limitations your ad message will need to be concise. Select keywords that are relevant to your product, service or content. Call to action phrases are not allowed (i.e. you cannot use phrases like “click here” in your ad copy.) There are also no pop-ups.

Steps for AdWord Campaign

1.) Open an account

2.) Target language and country - This is very important because if your product or service can not be exported you do not want to pay to advertise in those countries for which your product or service can not be sold.

3.) Create Ad Group - design an ad, select keywords, determine maximum cost per click that you are willing to spend and define bid amounts.

Title
The title tag is generally the most important part of the ad be sure to use a short phrase that gets the attention of your target audience. An underutilized feature at Google allows you to put a question mark in the title, the term searched on automatically replaces the question mark in the title of your ad.

Define max click - Google will suggest a cost per click, but the recommendation does not need to be adhered to. Arguments have been heard that #1 position does not always mean increased sales; sometimes a second position will filter useless clicks and provide targeted traffic with a higher conversion ration. The rule of thumb is positions 1-3 garner the most traffic and best results. Increasing either your maximum cost-per-click or the ads click through rate will generally improve the ad’s position.

Use keyword variations to reach more prospects. A variety or spellings and derivatives of keywords will increase the chances of your ads being served. Be sure to use common misspellings and plurals in your keyword list.

Broad match - is targeting keywords in a loosely defined manner. Ads appear based on keywords that have been queried by search users. For instance, if the keywords you are planning on broad matching are “mountain bikes” and users search for the terms “bikes that can climb a mountain”, your ad will appear; as opposed to exact match, which requires that the keywords selections must exactly match the query.

Phrase match - is indicated when quotations are used in the phrase. A keyword phrase set to phrase match will only appear when the exact phrase is searched on. For example “mountain bikes” will appear when searchers search for “brand name mountain bikes”.

Exact match - is when the keyword or phrase is entered with brackets. The phrase will only serve ads when the entered search phrase is identical to the keyword phrase. “Mountain bikes” will only appear when searchers search for “mountain bikes”

Negative keyword - is helpful in filtering unrelated phrases. A dash is entered before the filtering phrase. “Mountain bike -races will not appear if mountain bike races are searched on.

Landing Page - is important because this not only helps with tracking, but also provides a focused and specific landing page for searchers. Information can be related to the actual search, while also increasing the conversion ratios for sales. A focused landing page with content related and using the same terminology as the actual search, will show the searcher that your solution is relevant to their needs.

3.) Define budget - in order to maximize exposure Google recommends a daily budget for each campaign.

Google’s suggested budget is helpful in receiving consistent traffic throughout the advertising campaign. Keep in mind this is only Google’s recommendation; ultimately it is up to you to determine a budget that is affordable and suitable.

Google supplies tracking tools that assist webmasters in determining their return on investment based on keyword searches and phrases. While the technology is not perfect and cannot track phone and purchase orders, it should give advertisers a sense of what phrases and keywords are converting well in their advertising campaign.

While Google AdWords should not be your only advertising campaign, but should be a significant part of your campaign. Google AdWords can certainly help send those important targeted searchers to your website. Get started with Google AdWords at http://www.google.com/ads/
